A Few Ramblings

Saw this fella at Masham Sheep Fayre this Summer just loved the horns. I was looking for some things and ideas for spinning and weaving. I did come away with some goodies

I had to wait until the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate when I got a YarnShifter what a beautiful peice of kit. I am itching to get cracking with it but it will have to wait until we have collated the Brough Clubs Newsletter and posted it. i have plenty of handspun yarn to make a small throw for my dear old Mum who is unable to get out and about nowadays.

Since my transplant I am doing more things than before but I still have to rest up every so often. On thing I am really happy to be able to do now is ride my Motorcycle. A good friend of mine came over last year saying I was suffering from withdrawl symptoms. Lack of motorcycling!!! Well that was cured with his help moving bikes about. I was rather weak then dues to lack of exercise. This Summer I went t the BS club annual rally at Wimpole Hall got rather wet but it was fun even was awarded a trophy I guess they were surprised to see me out and about riding. Especially after my new heart last year was rather naughty with severe palpitations which could have been very dangerous. Luckily with the help of pills which slowed me down so much I nearly gfound to a stop. Anyway it is sorted now and I am up to speed again. At the clubs AGM they voted me man and machine Thats the big one.
Sproglet could not help herself wanted to be in the picture. Now she is the reason I had the transplant. How could I throw the towel in and refuse a transplant and leave her without a Dad when she was only four and a half ????
I am enjoying being a fit and healthy Dad doing the things I could not.

The only thing with having a transplant is you have to take a load of medication to prevent the heart from being rejected. I have an A4 box file full of drugs with a months supply to keep me going. Fortunatly the amount I have to take a day is now less than when I started. There are a few side effects one started after I had suffered rejecting early on when I had just been discharged from The Freeman Hospital that was caused by the high dose of prednisolone ( a steroid). That knocked me sideways and I became a right crabby old git. I still get some terrible mood swings due to the medications. But compared to the alternative its only a small price to pay. One thing that does effect me now is the cold before I could go about in a T shirt in winter now I have to wrap up to keep me warm but thats due to having no nerves conected to my heart telling it when to work harder and it only does thet when adrenalin gives it a boost.

Profile

I live in North Yorks with my wife and daughter. About 6 years ago developed ME. I had to give up work and all my active hobbies as well as motorcycling. I found that one hobby I could do wasrelaxing, stimulating and creative. That was spinning which led onto weaving and I followed on with doing bits of woodwork to make items I needed. However my health deteriated due to a virus causing my heart to swell culminating on January 30th 2004 I had to have a heart transplant.
Now I am far better than I have been for a few years. I am indebted to my donor Ian and his family. A wonderful gift and someone who I will never be able to thank.
I can ride my motorcycles and go for walks and do things I had not expected to do before my transplant.
